Merida Initiative to Combat Illicit Narcotics and Reduce Organized Crime Authorization Act of 2008 – Title I: Assistance for Mexico – Subtitle A: Law Enforcement and Security Assistance -

(Sec. 112) Authorizes the President to provide assistance for Mexico for:
(1) counternarcotics and countertrafficking;
(2) port, airport, and related security to assist in controlling the Mexico-U.S. and Mexico-Central America borders;
(3) intelligence gathering operational technology; and
(4) public security and law enforcement, including assistance to the National Council Against Addiction (CONADIC).

 

Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 – Amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to add a new section concerning the prevention of violent radicalization (an extremist belief system for facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change) and homegrown terrorism (violence by a group or individual within the United States to coerce the U.S. government, the civilian population, or a segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives). Establishes within the legislative branch the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism.


Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 Amendments Act of 2008 or FISA Amendments Act of 2008 – Amends the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (FISA) to authorize the Attorney General (AG) and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to jointly authorize the targeting (electronic surveillance) of persons located outside the United States in order to acquire foreign intelligence information, subject to specified requirements.


A bill to promote and enhance public safety by facilitating the rapid deployment of IP-enabled 911 and E-911 services, encourage the Nation’s transition to a national IP-enabled emergency network, and improve 911 and E-911 access to those with disabilities.
